Mesenteric Adenitis Treatment
Mesenteric Adenitis is a condition causing severe stomach pain in children up to 16 years of age with symptoms similar to appendicitis. The condition is not severe and should not last longer than a day or two.-
Treatment
-
An over-the-counter medication can be used for the stomach ache but if a fever exists or the symptoms get worse, seek medical attention as there may be other medical issues involved.
Diagnosis
-
Mesenteric Adenitis is diagnosed as swollen lymph glands in the stomach but because they cannot be felt or seen it is difficult for a physician to confirm this is the problem. He or she may have to work by a process of elimination. If the condition does not improve it may be necessary to get a consult from another physician.
Testing
-
If Mesenteric Adenitis was the diagnosis but the condition lingers for more than two weeks, a physician needs to be consulted. Additional tests may be required to determine what the problem is. In some cases a surgical procedure may be necessary to actually look at the lymph glands to determine if they are causing the stomach pain. If they are not, the actual cause will need to be determined.
