Mitro Valve Prolapse Treatment
Mitral valve prolapse is a condition of the heart that can cause an array of symptoms and problems. Not all cases of mitral valve prolapse are dangerous, or serious. In most cases, the syndrome does not produce any symptoms.-
Identification
-
Mitral valve prolapse (MVP) is a defect in the mitral valve where the valve prolapses when it opens, then closes. Sometimes the valve can cause regurigitation into the atrium. Mitral valve prolapse is most often seen in women; most commonly in women in their late teens to twenties.
Treatment with Medication
-
One form of treatment for MVP is Beta blockers, which help to slow the heart when it gets rapid. Beta blockers also help with palpitations and irregular heart beats.
Treatments for Regurgitation
-
Treatments for regurgitation come in the form of diuretics, vasodilators and anticoagulants. If medication does not help the condition, it may be necessary to surgically repair the mitral valve.
Increase Fluids
-
Adequate fluid intake can reduce symptoms associated with MVP, such as dizziness, weakness and light-headedness.
Diet
-
Individuals with mitro valve prolapse should reduce their sugar intake. Poor diets can worsen MVP symptoms.
