Definition of TVT Incontinence
When the urethra is supported by pelvic floor muscles and strong connective tissue, you don't have accidental loss of urine through physical exertion. Many women have weakened muscles and tissues in the pelvic floor that are caused by childbirth, loss of estrogen and repetitive pelvic muscle straining. TVT (trans vaginal tape) is used in surgery and restores normal urethra function, eliminating incontinence.-
TVT is minimally invasive
-
TVT surgery is considered to be minimally invasive and has proven to be a successful treatment in incontinence.
Surgery Time
-
The surgery can be completed in 35 minutes and can be done with local anesthesia. Some surgeons prefer general anesthesia.
TVT Surgical Procedure
-
TVT combines the use, of polypropylene mesh tape, with the sling procedure to support the urethra. The mesh tape loosely supports the middle of the urethra. It provides support when needed, without the tension associated with traditional sling procedures.
After the Surgery
-
Your body tissue will eventually grow into the mesh of the tape. This is what secures it. The tape can be adjusted by your surgeon if needed.
Sucess Rate
-
The success rate for TVT is 85 percent. Pregnant women or women who plan to become pregnant are not candidates for the surgery since the tape does not stretch.
