Hydroxyz HCL Side Effects
Hydroxyz HCL, otherwise known as hydroxyzine hydrochloride, is a prescription medication that belongs to a classification of drugs referred to as antihistamines. It works on certain chemicals and neurotransmitters in the central nervous system to block or lessen the impact on a person's system. While it may be commonly seen as a treatment to reduce nervousness and tension that can accompany anxiety or dementia, it has seen positive results as a remedy for some allergies as well as an adjunct medication for both analgesics and sedatives. As with almost any prescription medication, Hydroxyz HCL is not without its side effects.-
Drowsiness
-
One of the most common side effects from Hydroxyz HCL will involve some level of drowsiness after ingestion. This will be only a momentary drowsiness as the medication takes effect on the body, and will pass as time goes on. However, it will usually occur each time you take the medication since the drug works on certain chemicals and neurotransmitters in the brain.
Dizziness
-
Some people may also begin to experience a certain amount of dizziness or lightheadedness from the ingestion of Hydroxyz HCL. Much like the side effect of drowsiness, any dizziness or lightheadedness that you experience from the medication will be temporary and lessen as drug works through your system. If you were to feel some dizziness or lightheadedness, you should simply sit down until the sensation passes. Of course, if it were to persist, you should talk to your doctor right away.
Visual Disturbance
-
Another fairly common side effect you may notice when using Hydroxyz HCL is best categorized as a visual disturbance. After you have taken the medication, you may begin to observe a change in your visual perception that would appear as almost a blurred vision. Again, this is your body's reaction to the medication, and not all people will suffer from this side effect.
Headache
-
Since Hydroxyz HCL affects the chemicals and neurotransmitters of the brain, it isn't unheard of for some people to suffer from periodic headaches. The headaches would appear sometime after ingestion, and can be treated with an over-the-counter pain reliever, like aspirin or ibuprofen. Before taking any other medication with Hydroxyz HCL, even something seemingly insignificant like aspirin or ibuprofen, you should talk to your doctor about the best course of treatment for this particular side effect.
Dry Mouth
-
On occasion, you could also begin to experience a drier than normal mouth. It would feel as if you're dehydrated, though you're not, and will usually pass as your body becomes accustomed to Hydroxyz HCL.
Tremors
-
Though rare, some people prescribed Hydroxyz HCL to treat a symptom of a disorder or an allergic reaction may suffer from tremors or spontaneous twitching of the muscles. They may also even go into convulsions from the medication. If this were to happen, contact a doctor immediately.
