Symptoms of Fingernail Fungus

In a fungal infection of the fingernail, a fungus infects the area right under the tip of the nail. From there, the fungus may spread under the nail and into the nail bed. When this happens, you'll begin to manifest certain symptoms.

Thickened Nail

• You may notice that the affected fingernail has become thicker than the other nails on the hand.

Brittle Nail

• A fingernail fungus can also change the rigidity of your fingernail, prompting it to become brittle or more fragile.

Malformation

• As the fingernail grows, it may appear misshapen or malformed.

Dull

• Your nails have a certain amount of natural sheen or shine. A fingernail fungus can cause the nail to become dull.

Discoloration

• Another fairly common symptom of a fingernail fungus will involve some discoloration to the nail, and the nail may look darker than the other nails on your hand.
