Reasons for Numb Hands

There are various reasons that hands can become numb. Some are out of a person's control, such as age or occupation. Also, numb hands can come from recreational activities or extremes in weather.
  1. Nerves

    • Diabetes is known for its impact on insulin and blood sugar levels, but it can also cause nerve damage that can make the hands numb.

    Carpal Tunnel

    • Carpal tunnel syndrome happens as a result of repetitive motions of the wrist over a long period. This causes a nerve called the median nerve to get pinched off, and numbness can occur.

    Reynaud's Disease

    • This is a condition in which the hands don't get proper circulation due to cold weather. They turn white and can become numb.

    Bones

    • When broken bones occur in the hands, they can become numb.

    Breathing

    • When you breathe very fast, as in the case of sprinting, the gases in the blood can become out of balance. This condition, called hyperventilation, can cause numb hands.

    Vertebraes

    • Cervical spondylosis is a condition in which the bones in the backbone deteriorate, leading to numb hands.
