How to Cure Hyperhidrosis Without Surgery

Hyperhidrosis is when you experience excessive sweating, even when you are not exerting yourself physically. Hyperhidrosis can be both unpredictable and uncontrollable which can lead to potentially embarrassing social situations. There are a variety of ways to address this overactivity of the sweat glands, as explained by the Mayo Clinic (see "Resources" below). In most cases, people who suffer from hyperhidrosis can be helped without resorting to surgery.

Ask you doctor about getting a prescription for a stronger deodorant that contains aluminum chloride. This type of deodorant is even more potent than the "clinical strength" formulas on the market and can combat excessive sweating more effectively. If the prescription deodorant irritates your skin, wear it overnight when you experience the most sweating, and wash it off in your morning shower.

Consider taking an anticholinergic drug such as glycopyrrolate to cure your hyperhidrosis. This medication prevents your sweat glands from being stimulated and can significantly reduce the amount of sweat you produce within a few weeks.

    • 3

Receive temporary relief from your sweating through Botox treatments. Botox injections stop your nerves from telling the sweat glands to produce sweat. Relief can last for up to four months, but the results may vary from person to person.

Undergo a safe and low-dose form of shock treatment called iontophoresis. Your doctor will send an electric current to your hands or feet while they are under water as a way to block your sweat glands from working overtime.

Make some lifestyle changes that, while not a cure, will make your hyperhidrosis easier to deal with. Wear loose-fitting clothing that can breathe, such as cotton t-shirts. Change your socks often if your feet tend to sweat alot. Foot and body powders can help you feel more comfortable by absorbing some of the sweat.
