How to Order an X-ray for Scoliosis

Scoliosis is a medical condition in which the spine curves. The spine of someone with scoliosis can either curve back and forth in an S-shape or look more like the letter "C". A curved spine can lead to other health issues as the body that wants to tilt or lean to one side. Severe cases can even cause trouble breathing and lead to pain. It is important that children be regularly checked by their physician for scoliosis. As with any medical condition, early diagnosis and treatment can mean a world of difference in the overall health outlook.

  Set up an appointment with a physician.

  Ask the physician to check your spine for scoliosis.

  Request an x-ray of the spine to confirm or deny any suspicions of scoliosis being present. A certified x-ray technician will administer the x-rays. The x-rays may be taken at your physician's office or you may be sent to a radiology department or center. Typically two x-rays will be taken of the spine, one from the back and another from a side view.

  Have the x-rays read by a radiologist. The radiologist will determine whether or not you have scoliosis and report back to your health care provider.

  Listen to the results as interpreted by your physician at a follow-up appointment or via phone notification.

  Follow any treatment course set up by your physician if it is determined you have scoliosis.
