How to Use Supplements to Improve Varicose Veins

A vein's purpose is to take blood back to the heart for more oxygen. When valves in veins stop working properly, they do not prevent blood from flowing backward into the arteries. This creates enlarged, bulging veins that can cause swelling, leg sores, itching, leg cramps and heaviness in the leg. Most varicose veins do not pose a serious threat and can be cared for with simple home measures.

Help to develop better utilization of oxygen in the tissues with DMG (dimethylglycine). A common adult dose is 50 mg three times daily.

    • 3

Add essential fatty acids to the diet which help to keep blood vessels soft and pliable. Common EFAs are flaxseed oil and fish oil, and many EFAs come in supplement form.
