Cut down on gassy foods. Most of us know the effects certain foods have on us, but cutting down on the ones that are known for being gassy is a good defense to a growling stomach. Cabbage, broccoli, and beans are the most well-known for being gassy, however, some people may also get gassy from dairy products. If you are going to be somewhere where you know ahead of time it will be quiet, steer clear of these foods. Go for a light, bland meal instead.

Drink water. Try sipping on some water before any event where you wish for your stomach to remain quiet for you. If it is an event where sipping water is appropriate, then by all means, sip away. Just make sure you are close to a restroom. Sipping water for a long period of time is likely to make you need one.

Reduce anxiety. Sometimes nervousness can cause us to sigh more than usual leading to air being swallowed. This extra air in our system can cause extra rumbling sounds to occur. If you seem to be overly anxious or nervous, talk to your doctor about possible treatment methods. Just being able to relax can sometimes prevent your stomach from growling.

Limit your alcohol intake. Excessive consumption of alcohol can cause burping, hiccuping and gas, all leading to excess air in your system that can cause loud sounds to erupt from your stomach. It is good to know how much alcohol your system can tolerate and stay below that. While small amounts of alcohol don't present a problem in most people, excessive amounts of alcohol can cause a whole host of other health problems as well. Bottom line is, try not to overdo it.

Discuss it with your doctor if your stomach growling seems excessive to you or seems to worsen. There are prescription and over-the-counter medications that can help settle down your stomach. If the problem is bothersome, talk to your doctor about these options. He will be able to offer you solutions that will help.
