Journals on Applied Behavior Analysis

Applied behavior analysis, or ABA, is the science of predicting human behavior by observing measurable relationships between environment and behavior. These observation can then be used to design methods to modify behavior. The best-publicized cases where ABA is used are those that involve learning and developmental disabilities, such as autism. However, ABA methods and theories are used in areas as varied as parenting, AIDS prevention, medical procedures and seat-belt use. Applied behavior scientists write for journals in many areas, but there are some journals which focus entirely on applied behavior analysis papers.
  1. Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis

    • The Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, or JABA, is a psychology journal that focuses on research in behavior analysis applied to social problems, especially developmental disabilities. JABA started in 1968. Currently, the journals are indexed by PubMed and Web of Science, among others, and JABA publishes 50 to 60 articles a year.

Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior

    • First published in 1958, the Journal of the Experimental Analysis of Behavior, or JEAB, reports about experiments relevant to the behavior of individual organisms. Since it was created, the journal has published over 4,100 articles, and currently it publishes around 100 articles a year. The entire archive of back issues is available at no cost at the PubMed Central publishing website.

    Behavior Analyst Online

    • The Behavior Analyst Online, or BAO, publishes several online journals in the ABA discipline. Journals in this category include the Behavior Analyst Today (BAT), the International Journal of Behavioral Consultation and Therapy, the Journal of Early and Intensive Behavior Intervention and the Journal of Behavioral Health and Medicine. Behavior Analyst Online journals focus on the prevention, early intervention and accurate behavioral assessment of human behavior.

Journal of the Analysis of Verbal Behavior

    • The Journal of the Analysis of Verbal Behavior was first printed in 1982 by the Association for Behavior Analysis International. The journal is published annually and gives special attention to original experimental and theoretical papers on issues relevant to the analysis of verbal behavior. Verbal behavior is the branch of human behavior that deals with language, linguistics and speech.
