How to Avoid Dizziness

Dizziness can make you feel faint, light-headed or unsteady. You may lose your balance or feel as if the room is spinning or moving. The University of Maryland Medical Center states that in most cases, dizziness passes quickly or is easily treated. Simple changes to your diet and habits can prevent the common causes of dizziness. If you have never experienced dizziness or if your symptoms are severe, discuss the problem with your health care provider.

Instructions

    • 1

Change positions slowly. Light-headedness can occur when you stand or sit up too quickly. If you suffer from vertigo, move slowly whenever you change the position of your head.

    • 2

Drink plenty of fluids to prevent dehydration, which often leads to dizziness. This is especially important if you are fighting a cold, the flu or an infection.

    • 3

Eat a healthy snack between meals. Snacks can prevent low blood sugar, which is a common cause of dizziness.

    • 4

Seek treatment for ear infections, viral illness and respiratory infections as soon as possible to prevent labyrinthitis, which is the inflammation of the inner ear. Inner-ear problems often cause dizziness.
