How to Use Portable Oxygen

Portable oxygen is used by people when they're not getting enough oxygen into their lungs due to illness or other health reasons. The oxygen that comes from an oxygen tank is concentrated and will help increase oxygen levels in the blood quickly and effectively. The amount of oxygen used, and the frequency of usage, should be determined by your physician.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill the humidifier to the fill line with distilled water. This is a small bottle that is connected to the oxygen tank.

    • 2

Connect an oxygen tube from the humidifier to the nasal cannula.

    • 3

Start the flow of oxygen by turning the valve on top counter-clockwise. Continue to turn the valve until the meter reads the number prescribed by your doctor.

    • 4

Put the progs of the nasal cannula into your nostrils, facing upward and reaching as high up as possible.

    • 5

Place the tubing behind each ear to keep it secure and out of your way.
