Temodar Protocols
Temodar is chemotherapy medication used in the treatment of certain types of brain tumors. There are many types of brain tumors that may present in one of the many different areas of the brain. Temodar is indicated for the treatment of a type of tumor known as a glioblastoma multiforme and is most effective when used concomitantly with radiation on newly diagnosed tumors.-
Temodar Capsules

Temodar is most often prescribed as an oral medication; however, it can be administered intravenously. Temodar capsules come in a variety of doses; 5mg, 20mg, 100mg, 140mg, 180mg and 250 mg, and dosing is determined by the physician on a case-by-case basis. Frequency and amount of Temodar to be taken is based on factors such as height, weight and the type of cancer involved. The capsules should be taken on an empty stomach to avoid stomach upset. The capsules should not be chewed, crushed, cracked open or otherwise altered.
Side Effects

There are several possible side effects that accompany Temodar use. Not all side effects may be experienced and most side effects will dissipate over time. Possible difficulties may include nausea, vomiting, constipation, headache and fatigue. Less commonly, a patient may temporarily experience blood cell, low white blood cell and low platelet counts leaving him more susceptible to infection. Edema, dizziness, weakness, seizures, diarrhea , skin rash and itching may occur as delayed side effects.
Warnings and Precautions

Temodar should not be administered to pregnant woman. Temodar is located in pregnancy category D, meaning that harm to the fetus may occur during its use. It may also impair male fertility. Both male and female patients are advised to consult a physician should a pregnancy occur during use of Temodar. Breast-feeding should also be suspended during Temodar use as the drug may be passed though breast milk. Patients should also refrain from taking aspirin or aspirin products unless directly advised by their physician to do so. Temodar patients should also avoid any immunizations or vaccinations unless advised by their physician otherwise.
