Define Cremasteric Response

The cremasteric response, also known as the cremasteric reflex, is a type of reflex seen only in men. It involves the cremaster, a muscle that is connected to the testes.

Function

• The cremaster muscle functions by lifting and lowering the testicles. This is done to control the temperature of the testicles. If the testicles get too hot, they are not able to properly create sperm.

Identification

• The cremaster reflex occurs when the thigh is stroked gently in a downward direction. The normal response of the reflex is the movement of scrotum and testicles to the side as the muscle contracts.

Significance

• The cremaster response is more pronounced in children than adults. The cremaster can also be voluntarily contracted by flexing the abdominal or kegel muscles.
