Detoxification, also known as "detox," removes built-up toxins from various sources from the body and promotes better health. There are several methods of detox available. Before starting any of them, consider safe ways to remove impurities and toxins.

    • Schedule a massage to stimulate blood circulation and the lymphatic system, which is necessary to filter the blood and remove harmful toxins. Detox massages help relax tense muscles, increase mental alertness and fight depression.

    • Cleansing your system is another key factor in a safe and healthy detox. Eating fiber-rich foods such as fruits and vegetables and drinking more water -- up to eight glasses a day -- increases urinary output and regulates bowel activity, both of which help the body get rid of toxins.

    • Fruits and vegetables purchased in standard grocery stores may contain pesticides, and household products such as cleaning supplies and laundry detergent may include harmful ingredients and expose your body to toxins. Buying organic food and "green" cleaning products reduces the toxins in your living space.
