How to Change an Invacare Solid Tire on a Wheelchair
Solid wheelchair tires are preferred for those wheelchair users who do not want to worry about maintaining the tires and will be using the wheelchair on smooth surfaces. This is because they are not susceptible to punctures in the same way as pneumatic tires. However, they do need to be replaced periodically. A solid tire on an Invacare wheelchair can be installed using a prying tool and lubrication.Things You'll Need
- Prying tool
- Oil-based lubricant

1
Remove the old tire. Insert a prying tool between the wheelchair hub and the tire. Move it around the wheelchair hub, prying the tire away from the wheel so that it is not sitting in the groove. Pull the tire off the hub.
-
2
Lay the wheel on a table or work bench. Apply an oil-based lubricant around the rim of the hub where the new tire will be installed, to help the new tire slide into place.
-
3
Place the tire one the edge of the rim with one side in the groove. Snap the new tire into the groove on the hub with your hands as far as you can. Use the prying tool to help you snap the tire into the groove, by bending and stretching the tire.
-
4
Inspect your wheel to ensure the tire is sitting correctly in the tire groove. Use the prying tool to snap in any parts of the tire that are not sitting correctly.
