Abnormal Testicles
Testicles are prone to a number of potential harmful conditions. These should all be taken seriously, as the testicles help regulate hormonal balance as well as produce sperm and control reproductive function.-
Physical Trauma
-
Testicles are subject to trauma from intense physical activity. Although the testicle tissue is spongy and often can absorb shock, testicles can be damaged as they hang outside of the body and are not protected by muscle or bone. Any trauma can lead to bruising, swelling, pain --- and occasionally ruptures.
Primary Hypogonadism
-
Hypogonadism occurs when the body does not produce enough testosterone, and it can originate either in the testes or in the pituitary glands. Primary hypogonadism occurs when the testes are not producing sufficient amounts of testosterone because of an abnormality or damage. Results of hypogonadism are severe and include sexual dysfunction, loss of male secondary sexual characteristics, growth of breast tissue and severe mental and emotional symptoms.
Testicular Cancer
-
Testicular cancer is the result of uncontrolled growth of abnormal testicular cells. This commonly manifests as a lump in one or both testicles and a feeling of discomfort. More serious cases manifest as pain and heaviness in the scrotum and/or testicles. Men with undescended testicles are particularly vulnerable.
