How to Remove Skin Fungus

According to the Mayo Clinic, fungal infections on the skin, such as ringworm, athletes foot and jock itch, develop on the top layer of skin. These infections can be caught when the person's skin comes in contact with another person's infected skin, an infected object, such as a dirty locker room floor, or in the case of ringworm, infected soil. There are several ways that a person can remove this fungal infection from the skin in order to relieve some of the symptoms that can be associated with it, such as itching, burning or red skin patches.

  • Tea tree oil
  • Aloe vera gel
  • Prescription topical anti-fungal medications

      Cover the infected area with an over-the-counter, anti-fungal medication, such as Lamisil or Lotrimin. Clean and dry the area before the application occurs. Use this treatment once daily for several weeks, or until the infection has cleared.

      Soak a cotton swab in a mixture of one cup water and five drops tea tree oil. Cover the affected area with the oil three to four times a day for several weeks, or until the infection has cleared.

      Cover the infected area three to four times a day with a layer of aloe vera gel. Allow the gel to cool before placing any clothing over it. Continue to cover the area for several weeks, or until the infection has cleared.

      Speak to your doctor about a prescription topical anti-fungal medications, such as miconazole, butenafine and oxiconasole. These medication come in several forms, including lotion, cream and ointments.

      Speak to your doctor about a prescription oral anti-fungal medication, such as fluconazole and ketoconazole. These medication are taken by mouth for several days to help cure the infection, according to the Mayo Clinic.
