The Causes of Smelly Feet in Infants

Smelly feet can happen to anyone, including babies. Causes range from sweat to footwear. If your baby has smelly feet, you don't have to worry because it's not uncommon. Many parents feel the need to keep their baby's feet covered up for safety, but this is not necessary.
  1. Sweat

    • Sweat is a big cause of smelly feet. Babies and young children are often moving around, causing their feet to sweat. The type of footwear that your child wears can affect this as well. Sweat creates a breeding ground for bacteria because it is warm and creates a moist environment where bacteria can thrive.

    Socks

    • If your baby wears a socks, use cotton socks so they can breathe. Polyester, for example, does not let feet breathe and can cause them to become sweat and in turn, smelly. Onesies with feet is another example of a type of footwear that does not allow feet to breathe. If your child has stinky feet, do not dress him in these.

    Shoes

    • Shoes can get smelly, and bacteria and dirt can stay in them. Get your baby shoes that are machine washable. When you notice your child's feet starting to smell, throw the shoes in the wash to clean them of any bacteria. Also, avoid leather shoes because they can't be washed and do not breathe.
