How to Repair a BK-8808 Probe

Medical science has advanced to provide many small tools for scanning the interior of the human body. Medical professionals can easily see lesions and access biopsy areas with a small scanning probe, such as a BK-8808. This probe resembles a common pen with two small buttons on the side. Workers place the probe into a patient's rectal areas to examine the prostate and surrounding tissues. However, the BK-8808 probe may require repair over time, since it is used in a variety of different medical procedures.

Instructions

    • 1

Visually inspect the probe's exterior surface. Make sure there are no cracks or obviously broken pieces.

    • 2

Inspect the probe's power cord. Confirm that the cord is entering the probe with no loose wires, and inspect the connector at the cord's opposite end. Verify that the cord is not cut or stretched. The power cord typically plugs into a large scanning machine and may be damaged over time from pulling and stretching toward the intended patient.

    • 3

Press each button individually. Make sure that each one depresses and releases with every press. The buttons can become jammed with scanning gel over time. Clean the surrounding button area with a cloth to remove any hardened gel.

    • 4

Inspect the water inlet. Verify that the inlet is clear of scanning gel. Place the probe under running water to remove any hardened gel or debris from the inlet.

    • 5

Inspect any attachment accessories, such as the dummy channel bracket, to make sure they're not warped or damaged. Damaged accessories will impede the use of the BK-8808 probe and alter its functions during scanning. Remove and replace any damaged accessories.

    • 6

Test the probe after the inspection and adjustment steps. Verify that the scanned images appear clear and uninterrupted on the scanning machine.
