What causes dyskaryosis?
Dyskaryosis is a condition in which the cells in the cervix have abnormal changes in their appearance. These changes can be caused by a variety of factors, including:
* Human papillomavirus (HPV) infection: HPV is the most common cause of dyskaryosis. HPV is a sexually transmitted infection that can cause warts on the skin and genitals. Some types of HPV can also lead to cervical cancer.
* Other sexually transmitted infections: Some other sexually transmitted infections, such as chlamydia and gonorrhea, can also cause dyskaryosis.
* Hormonal changes: Hormonal changes, such as those that occur during pregnancy or menopause, can also cause dyskaryosis.
* Smoking: Smoking can damage the cells in the cervix and make them more likely to develop dyskaryosis.
* Immune system problems: People with weakened immune systems, such as those with HIV/AIDS, are more likely to develop dyskaryosis.
Dyskaryosis is not always a sign of cancer, but it can be a precursor to cancer. That's why it's important to see your doctor if you have any abnormal changes in your cervix.
