Foods That Slow the Metabolism
If you have a slow metabolism, the food you eat gets converted into calories at a slow rate and gets stored in the body as fat. Stored fat can cause weight gain. The type of food we eat has a great deal to do with how our metabolism functions. To help with a slow metabolism, there are a number of foods that should be avoided, or at the very least consumed in moderation.-
Sweets and Sugar
-
Refined sugar found in cakes, candy and other sweets is a real enemy of a slow metabolism. High in calories, it causes our blood sugar levels to rise rapidly. While sugar can give the body a short boost of energy, it also stores in our bodies as excess fat.The more sugar you eat the more fat and calories your body is going to store.
Alcohol
-
Alcohol stops your body from burning fat. In addition to having a high sugar and calorie content, alcohol can be very dehydrating. If your body is not fully hydrated, your metabolism will not function properly and your metabolic rate will slow down.
White Bread
-
White bread is made from wheat flour. The bleaching process to remove any color from the bread also destroys all the vitamins and nutrients. It is easily digested, has no fiber or nutritional value, but is high in calories. White bread is full of sugar and can spike your sugar levels. Your body will burn fewer calories and store the fat.
Fried Foods
-
Fried foods are very high in calories and saturated fats. The saturated fats increase your body's cholesterol levels and will cause your metabolic rate to slow down.
Proecessed Foods
-
Processed prepared foods are convenient but bad for your metabolism. Full of chemical preservatives, trans fats and saturated fats, these foods will act against your metabolism and slow it down.
