Migraine Relief Tips
Migraines are painful aches usually on one particular side of the head. Stress, digestive problems, liver and vision issues and overworking of muscles can lead to migraines. From drugs to diet, herbal remedies to alternative methods, there are quite a few ways in which you can get relief from migraines.-
Medication
-
Both prescription and non-prescription medication can be used to treat migraines. While over-the-counter drugs can bring back an attack, medicines prescribed by a physician are usually effective in bringing down acute pain due to migraines. Such medicines, normally from the category of triptans like Axert, constrict the expanded brain blood vessels, normalize them and provide pain relief. These are also beneficial in treating light sensitivity and nausea, related to migraines.
Natural Remedies
-
Migraines can also be treated with a variety of herbs, fruits and vegetables. You can drink ground fresh grapes as juice, without adding water or apply a paste of ground lemon crust on the forehead to get prolonged and effective migraine pain relief. You could also crunch and mildly grind a few cabbage leaves, make a big poultice with it in a cloth and place it on the forehead for a period of time. Dried cabbage leaves are not as useful, so remember to always change used leaves and introduce fresh ones. Drinking mixtures of 300 milliliter of carrot juice either with 200 milliliters of spinach juice or 100 milliliters of cucumber and beet juices can also be a potent migraine pain relief.
Dietary Tips
-
Toxic cleansing of the body has a direct relation to migraine headaches. In order to cleanse your body, you could try to go on a fast of water and orange or cucumber or celery or carrot juice for two days or even three if the pain does not subside. Physicians will ask you to stay away from sugary foods or foods with additives and preservatives and food with refined flour. You can reduce your migraine pain or prevent occurrence by avoiding cakes, pastries, pickles, sauces and refined cereals. You can also get relief from migraines if once each month you go on a three day diet plan of three or four kinds of fruits only. Any diet properly balanced with nuts, grains, buttermilk, yogurt or honey can provide relief from migraine headaches. Having small regular meals and lots of water can also be beneficial in easing the pain.
Alternative Treatment
-
Tepid water enema to flush out bowels, warm foot baths, hot packs over stomach and spinal cord, cold packs on the head, hot towels on the neck and regular exercise help in relieving pain from migraines.
