Symptoms & Causes of MS
Multiple sclerosis, known as MS, is a noncontagious, autoimmune disease that inflames the central nervous system (brain and spinal cord). There is no cure for MS, but there are ways to detect it and treat it with medications once diagnosed.-
MS Cause
-
MS is caused when the myelin sheath or cover for the central nervous system nerves for the brain and spinal cord is damaged. The damage to the myelin sheath slows down nerve transmissions.
Visual Symptoms
-
There are groups of symptoms that can point to MS. One symptom is visual disturbances including blurred vision, double vision and loss of vision. Eyes may experience physical pain from optic neuritis or inflammation to the optic nerve.
Movement Difficulties
-
Muscle paralysis and weakness are other symptoms of MS. Muscles may move involuntarily or be stiff. Muscle issues can also affect speech.
Sensations
-
Numbness, pain, itching, a buzzing sound and lack of coordination and balance are other signs MS is looming.
Sexual, Bowel and Bladder Dysfunctions
-
Symptoms of MS may manifest themselves sexually and in the bowels or bladder. In turn, sexual dysfunction and lack of control of the bowels or bladder can occur.
Emotional Symptoms
-
Other symptoms can be a sign of MS. Depression, mood swings, anxieties and aphasia (speech impairment) are other possibilities.
