MS Unusual Symptoms

Multiple sclerosis (MS) occurs when the protective sheath surrounding your nerves begins to deteriorate. This impacts your brain's ability to send messages to the rest of your body. Symptoms vary greatly among sufferers, with some being rarer than others.
  1. Itching

    • Itching can occur when nerves or related pathways in the skin are damaged. Topical applications do not provide relief, but your doctor can prescribe medications that may help.

    Hearing Loss

    • If MS attacks your auditory nerves, hearing loss can result. According to the National MS Society, this symptom impacts only 6 percent of suffers.

    Headaches

    • While headaches are not a typical symptom of MS, the National MS Society notes that twice as many MS sufferers experience migraines compared to the general population.

    Considerations

    • If you have MS and are experiencing an unusual symptom, see your doctor to rule out other possible causes of discomfort.

    Treatment

    • Although there is no cure for MS, drugs can slow the progression of the disease and alleviate symptoms. Aerobic exercise, adequate rest and a healthful diet may also provide relief.
