1
Identify what is causing the balance problems. Multiple Sclerosis can cause lesions in the central nervous system, or a patient's gait may be uneven do to a weakness in one leg.
-
2
Consider taking aerobic classes or strength training for disabled. Some local gyms and hospitals offer classes specifically for MS patients.
-
3
Rest your legs. Many times a person suffering from MS may be too fatigued to walk. After resting for awhile, balance may improve.
-
4
Tell your doctor how your legs feel. Some may feel numbness in their legs called sensory ataxia. The numbness can be treated with medication to some extent.
-
5
Pick out the proper walking aides. If balance problems are becoming too much of a concern, find the right aid such as a cane or walker to assist you.
-
6
Ask your doctor if an Ankle-Foot Orthotic would help. The brace is light weight and can be easily hidden by socks and pants. It's designed to assist a person with balance problems.
