Life Insurance & Multiple Sclerosis
Ideally, we buy life insurance when we're young and the policy premiums are cheap. Diseases like multiple sclerosis often strike the young though, before they have had the opportunity to buy insurance.-
Is It Possible?
-
Members of the National MS Society reported in a recent survey that securing life insurance was not a problem, in spite of their medical condition.
A Caveat
-
While MS should not disqualify you from getting life insurance, it may result in higher premiums or less coverage than you might wish.
The Sooner, The Better
-
The time to look into life insurance is right after your diagnosis. Your insurance rating is based upon many factors, including when you were diagnosed, frequency of attacks, and degree of disability. These factors are less likely to impact you shortly after diagnosis.
Shop for Insurance
-
Don't accept the first bid. Like any other insurance, shopping around for life insurance can save you money.
Professional Help

There are licensed insurance brokers who deal regularly with MS. Contact your local chapter of the National MS Society for information.
