Relax, since the more you tense up the tighter the thigh will cramp. Lie down and take 10 deep breaths. Breathe in deeply through your nose and blow it out gently through your mouth. Consciously let go of the tension and don't fight it.

Drink enough fluids during the day to avoid leg cramps. You can drink a sports drink while you are having a cramp, and it will eventually help to ease the cramp.

Massage the painful area gently in the direction that the muscle goes. So if the cramping muscle is on the front of your thigh, rub your fingers from top to bottom over the muscle until you feel some relief. You may need to ask someone else to rub the back of your thigh while you lie down.

Stretch to ease out a cramp. If the cramp is on the front of your thigh, then point your toes down while you are sitting or lying down. If the cramp is on the back of your thigh, then pull your toes up towards your body. It will also stretch your calf.
