How to Massage Arm Muscles for Therapy

Making massage a part of a sports therapy treatment is widely recognized as the fastest way to regain strength and mobility, and to return to full activity sooner. It's a process of soothing and stretching sore muscles while slowly expanding their mobility.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply massage oil to your hands and rub them together firmly so they'll be warm it for the client. Lightly coat the arm prior to beginning.

    • 2

Bend the arm at the elbow so it makes 90 degree angle.

    • 3

Ask the client to push against you using only a small percentage of his ability. This begins to stretch and warm the arm muscles. Have him hold the stretch for 5 to 10 seconds and relax.

    • 4

Take the hand and push the hand back against the upper arm, encouraging the muscles to stretch in both directions, releasing tension and encouraging mobility.

    • 5

Support the client's wrist with one hand and use the other to support her elbow.

    • 6

Grasp the wrist firmly and rotate the arm at the elbow in a circular motion.

    • 7

Repeat the same process but ask the client to use more strength when pushing against your hand each time. Continue this until the client is back to full strength or until there is pain. Administer this sports therapy daily until he's healed.
