Can you receive stretch marks from gaining weight?

Stretch marks are a type of skin scarring that can occur when the skin is stretched or contracted rapidly. They are most commonly associated with pregnancy, rapid weight gain or loss, and growth spurts in adolescence. Stretch marks can also be caused by certain medical conditions, such as Cushing's syndrome and Marfan syndrome. Stretch marks typically appear as thin, red, or purple lines on the skin. They can occur on any part of the body, but they are most common on the abdomen, thighs, hips, and breasts. Stretch marks are not typically painful, but they can be itchy or uncomfortable. In most cases, stretch marks fade over time, but they may not completely disappear.

While rapid weight gain can contribute to the development of stretch marks, it is not the only factor that can cause them. Genetics, hormonal factors, and the elasticity of the skin can also play a role in the development of stretch marks.
