What are the four types of muscle contractions?

There are three main types of muscle contractions:

Isotonic contractions: These are contractions in which the muscle changes length while the force it generates remains constant. For example, when you lift a weight, your muscles contract and shorten (concentric contraction) and then lengthen again (eccentric contraction) as you lower the weight.

Isometric contractions: These are contractions in which the muscle generates force without changing length. For example, when you hold a heavy object in your hand, your muscles contract and resist the force of gravity without moving.

Eccentric contractions: These are contractions in which the muscle lengthens while it generates force. This type of contraction is important for activities like running, jumping, and going downhill, where your muscles must absorb and control the impact of your body weight as you move.
