How to Make a Homemade Gel Pack
It is always a good idea to have some simple first aid supplies on hand in case of emergencies. Your first aid kit should include a gel pack that can be kept in the freezer and applied to bruises, muscle strains and sprains. Gel packs are simple to make, and since they do not freeze solid, the gel pack will conform to your body. This is important if you have a bruise and do not want to put a solid block of ice on it. Make several gel packs and keep them in your freezer for whenever an emergency arises.Things You'll Need
- 1-gallon freezer zip-top bag 1 or 1 1/2 qt. freezer zip-top bag 2 1/2 cups water 1 1/2 cups rubbing alcohol

1
Pour the water and alcohol into a small, zip-top bag. Squeeze the air out of the bag and seal it.
-
2
Shake the bag to combine the water and alcohol. The alcohol will lower the freezing point of the water and prevent the ice pack from freezing solid.
-
3
Place the small bag into a larger freezer bag. Push the air out of the gallon-sized bag and zip to seal. This will prevent leaks in your freezer.
-
4
Place the gel pack in the freezer and keep it there until you require a cold compress for sprains, bruises, strains, headaches or any other injury.
