How to Use the Thera Cane

Muscle spasms and the knots or tightness that cause them can be hard to relieve, especially if the pain is in a hard-to-reach place. Many people go to a massage therapist to get the kinks worked out, while others rely on their own stretching to take care of tight muscles. The Thera Cane was created specifically for relieving muscle tightness. Its design allows you to reach painful spots ranging from the bottom of your feet to the middle of your back.

Instructions

    • 1

Position the ball-end of the Thera Cane on the sore spot in the muscle. If the sore muscle is near the shoulder, put the hook of the cane over the shoulder with the ball on the sore spot, and hold the cane with one hand at the bottom and the other hand on one of the handles on the side.

    • 2

Pull gently on the cane with both hands, pressing the ball into the sore muscle. The gentle pressure will help blood flow to the area, bringing oxygen-rich blood to the muscle, which helps the muscle repair and re-grow.

    • 3

Deepen the pressure on the sore spot by pulling harder on the Thera Cane, allowing the ball to press deeper into the muscle. Keep the ball on the muscle as you add more pressure. If the ball slides off the pressure point, you risk another injury or further damage to the surrounding muscles.

    • 4

Gently shift the Thera Cane back and forth to locate the trigger point with the ball. The trigger point is the part of the muscle that is the most sore and feels like a knot. Press the ball of the Thera Cane into the trigger point for about 10 seconds at a time. Release and pull again.

    • 5

Stretch out the injured muscle after using the Thera Cane. This will keep the muscle more relaxed and should keep it from tightening up again.
