How to Relieve RLS Symptoms
Restless legs syndrome (RLS) is a neurological disorder that causes pain or throbbing in the legs which ocurs primarily at night but can continue through the day. It disrupts the sleep cycle because it inhibits the sufferer's natural ability to fall asleep and get the recommended hours needed for a healthy lifestyle. According to the Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, as many as 10 percent of Americans suffer from RLS.Instructions

1
Talk to your doctor if you think you have RLS. It is believed that other diseases, such as diabetes or peripheral neuropathy, may be related to RLS, but doctors have not yet proven it.
-
2
Move the affected limbs as much as possible to circulate blood and relieve the throbbing. Adhere to a regulated exercise program agreed to by your doctor. Do not overexert yourself.
-
3
Make a lifestyle change. Decrease your use of caffeine, alcohol, and tobacco. Talk to a doctor about iron, magnesium and folate supplements, as deficiencies in these may contribute to the problem.
-
4
Ask your doctor about prescription medications that could help relieve your symptoms. Certain drugs that increase the levels of the neurotransmitter dopamine have shown progress in relieving symptoms.

5
Continue to seek treatment and learn as much about RLS as you can, as it generally is a lifelong disorder.
