How to Troubleshoot a Quantum 600 Wheelchair With No Power

The Quantum 6000 power wheelchair uses a battery-powered motor to provide speed. With use, the battery or motor may wear down and require maintenance. The power module's connectors grow weak and require reconnection. If you have adequate upper-body strength, you can troubleshoot most of the Quantum wheelchair's power problems. However, many serious problems are caused by motor failure or malfunction. The motor may require repair or replacement, a task best left in the hands of experienced professionals.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the connectors of your wheelchair. These are located on the underside of the wheelchair, on the power module. Remove the screws and pull the power module out of the wheelchair.

    • 2

Disconnect the battery connector. This connector plugs into the power module at the bottom center of the module. Lift the battery from the wheelchair and set it in the charger. Allow the battery to fully charge.

    • 3

Return the battery to the power module. Attach it to the the battery connector on the power module.

    • 4

Examine the motor connectors, located at the bottom of the power module, on both sides of the battery connector. Unplug these connectors. Wait 30 seconds and plug the connectors back into their ports.

    • 5

Insert the key into the wheelchair and turn it to the "On" position. Check the freewheeling switch. This switch turns off the engine to put the wheelchair in manual mode. Turn it to the "Off" position. This switch may prevent the wheelchair from turning on.

    • 6

Turn on the wheelchair by turning the key to the "On" position. If it will still not turn on, your problem is related to the motor. Your motor may require replacement or repair.
