What causes clicking in your shoulder?
Shoulder impingement: This occurs when the rotator cuff tendons become compressed between the humerus (upper arm bone) and the acromion (a bone on the shoulder blade). Shoulder impingement can cause pain, clicking, and decreased range of motion.
Biceps tendon injuries: The biceps tendon is a thick band of tissue that connects the biceps muscle to the shoulder joint. Biceps tendon injuries, such as tendinitis and tears, can cause clicking or popping sounds when the shoulder is moved.
Loose bodies: These are small pieces of bone or cartilage that can float around in the shoulder joint. Loose bodies can cause clicking, locking, or grinding sensations when the shoulder is moved.
Labral tears: The labrum is a ring of cartilage that lines the shoulder joint. Labral tears can occur due to injury or degeneration, and can cause clicking, catching, or locking sensations in the shoulder.
Arthritis: Arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation and damage to the joints. Arthritis of the shoulder joint can cause pain, stiffness, and clicking sounds when the shoulder is moved.
If you are experiencing clicking in your shoulder, it is important to see a doctor to determine the cause and receive appropriate treatment.
