Hyperbaric Oxygen Chamber Treatment on Cerebral Palsy

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a general diagnosis for a number of neurological disorders that affect body movement and muscle coordination. There is no cure for CP. However, there are several different treatment methods including the hyperbaric oxygen treatment.
  1. Hyperbaric Oxygen Treatment

    • Hyperbaric oxygen treatment involves sitting in a chamber where the levels of oxygen are controlled. When using hyperbaric oxygen treatment to treat cerebral palsy oxygen levels are set at 1.5 ATA, which is equivalent to being16.5 feet below sea level.

    The Process

    • Hyperbaric oxygen treatment works by increasing the amount of oxygen in the blood.

    Frequency

    • Hyperbaric oxygen treatment should be done on a weekly basis. CP patients are likely to have two one hour sessions a day, five or six days a week. If improvement is seen with the hyperbaric oxygen treatment a one to four week break should be taken following 40 sessions.

    Patients

    • This cerebral palsy treatment is designed for children with CP.

    Benefits

    • Benefits of the hyperbaric oxygen treatment for children with cerebral palsy may include improvement in hearing, seeing and communicating. The hyperbaric oxygen treatment is also known to decrease spasticity in kids with CP.
