Shingles: Rare Symptoms

If you've had chickenpox, there's a chance that one day you may contract shingles. The virus for chickenpox sits dormant once the disease is gone. It waits until you are weak from either disease, age or stress, and then comes back with a vengeance as shingles. There are many known symptoms of shingles, but also some rare ones.
  1. Light Sensitivity

    • Even though pain and sores are the most obvious symptoms of shingles, there are others. Some people notice that they have a sensitivity to light.

    Ears

    • Shingles may affect the ear and hearing. When it affects the ear, it causes symptoms of ear infection. Individuals with rare symptoms might feel dizzy and occasionally weak.

    Thought

    • Shingles have the potential to change how easily you think. It has the potential of slowing your thought process.

    Chills

    • Shingles can cause the person to feel chilled. It also may cause the skin to be an abnormal temperature and color after the shingles are gone.

    Eyes

    • Involvement of the eyes in shingles is rare but it can cause keratitis and palsy of the optic nerve. It might cause loss of vision in rare cases.

    Weaker Muscles

    • After the shingles subside, the patient may notice that the muscles are not as firm as before. This occurs because shingles may cause loss of muscle tone.
