What type of neuroglia is in Tay-Sachs syndrome?
Tay–Sachs disease is a neurodegenerative condition that is caused by the accumulation of a fatty substance called ganglioside GM2 in the brain. This accumulation of ganglioside GM2 damages nerve cells, leading to a progressive decline in mental and physical abilities. The neuroglia that is affected in Tay–Sachs syndrome are the neurons, which are the cells that transmit information in the brain.
