What is ts syndrome?
Turner syndrome is a genetic disorder in which a female is missing all or part of one X chromosome. This can cause a number of physical and developmental problems, including:
* Short stature
* Delayed puberty
* Infertility
* Webbed neck
* Broad chest
* Low hairline
* Kidney problems
* Heart defects
* Learning disabilities
* Social difficulties
Turner syndrome is a rare disorder, occurring in about 1 in 2,000 female births. The exact cause of Turner syndrome is unknown, but it is thought to be caused by an error in cell division during the formation of the egg or sperm.
Turner syndrome is diagnosed with a physical exam, blood tests, and genetic testing. Treatment for Turner syndrome is aimed at managing the symptoms of the disorder and may include:
* Growth hormone therapy
* Estrogen therapy
* Surgery to correct heart defects or other physical problems
* Special education services
* Counseling
Turner syndrome is a lifelong condition, but with proper treatment most women with Turner syndrome can live full and healthy lives.
