What is an erythematous duodenopathy biopsy?

Erythematous duodenopathy (ED) is a disease characterized by inflammation and redness of the duodenum, the first part of the small intestine. A biopsy is a procedure in which a small piece of tissue is removed from the body and examined under a microscope. In the case of an erythematous duodenopathy biopsy, a small piece of tissue is removed from the duodenum and examined to confirm the diagnosis of ED and to rule out other possible causes of the symptoms, such as celiac disease or Crohn's disease. The biopsy may also help to determine the severity of the inflammation and to guide treatment decisions.
