How to Apply Different Kinds of Wrist Splints
Wrist splints are useful when an individual suffers with carpal tunnel syndrome, neuropathy of the hands or other conditions. The splint acts as a brace to prevent flexion of the wrist and decrease swelling. Different types are available at pharmacies and medical supply stores. They are available in different sizes and types to help every type of wrist problem.Instructions

1
Purchase the correct size of wrist splint. They often come in small, medium and large sizes. Small-boned people or children typically wear a small size, while women and many men require a medium. If you have large wrists, you may require the largest size. It is important that the wrist splint fits snugly but not tight enough to decrease the blood flow. Medical supply stores can assist you with the proper size, and splints may be custom-made as well.

2
Hold the wrist splint so that the thumb hole is on the same side as your thumb. Some wrist splints not only have a hole for the thumb but they also have finger holes as well. The splints are often flesh-colored.

3
Slide your thumb into the thumb hole. Do this with your fingers if there are any finger holes. If there is a cloth section that slips over your wrist, pull it snugly over the area. Some wrist splints extend a few inches beyond the base of your palm, depending on which type is most comfortable for you and recommended by your doctor.

Wrap the hook and loop strap around your wrist area so it is snug but not too tight. Re-adjust it if necessary, if you feel the splint is too tight after a few minutes. Many people experience comfort and lessening of their pain right away.

5
Adjust any additional straps up to your elbow if there is more than one. Many wrist splints are reversible, so if the strap reaches to the bottom of your wrist and you want it on the top section, simply switch the splints.
