What is mass body index?
Body mass index (BMI) is a value derived from the mass (weight) and height of an individual. The BMI is defined as the individual's mass divided by the square of their height. The formula for calculating BMI is:
```
BMI = mass (in kilograms) / height (in meters squared)
```
BMI can be used to provide a general assessment of a person's weight and health status. It can identify whether an individual is underweight, normal weight, overweight, or obese. The BMI ranges are as follows:
* Underweight: BMI less than 18.5
* Normal weight: BMI between 18.5 and 24.9
* Overweight: BMI between 25 and 29.9
* Obese: BMI 30 or greater
It's important to note that BMI is just one tool used for general health assessment and may not be appropriate for certain individuals, such as pregnant women, children, or bodybuilders. It should always be used in conjunction with other health information and evaluations.
