How to Reduce the Number of Fat Cells

The number of fat cells in the body is determined during childhood and adolescence. After that, the only way to reduce the number of fat cells is by liposuction. Changes in fat volume in the adult years is attributable to change in the size of individual fat cells, not a change in their number. Given this observation, the question arises whether it is even worthwhile to reduce the number of fat cells, if their volume is what determines a person's obesity. The answer is yes, though weight gain after liposuction is not impossible.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep your weight down during the teen years, when the number of fat cells is being set. Joining a team outside of school sports (e.g., a cycling or running club) that engages in daily aerobic activity ensures year-round exercise. Eat a balanced diet, avoiding empty calories and non-essential fats.

Seek out a plastic surgeon for liposuction. This is the one way to achieve fat cell count reduction in the adult years.

    • 3

Eat and exercise sensibly after surgery to avoid undoing what you paid so much for. Liposuction is not a license to indulge more than ever. Some fat cells will still exist where the operation took place. Furthermore, weight gain in other places can make the site of operation peculiarly disproportionate in its leanness.
