How to Store Xenical

Xenical is a prescription weight-loss medication used by doctors to treat severely overweight individuals with a body mass index (BMI) exceeding 30. It may also be prescribed for individuals with a BMI under 30 if they are at risk for obesity. According to the manufacturer, Roche, Xenical works by blocking up to one-third of the fat you consume in your diet. Xenical comes in capsule form and will typically be dispensed by your pharmacist in a prescription pill bottle. The storage guidelines are similar to most prescription medicines.

Instructions

    • 1

Keep Xenical out of the reach of small children and pets. A high cabinet or shelf works best to keep the medication out of the sight of children. You can also request that your pharmacist put the medication in a childproof bottle for extra protection.

    • 2

Store your Xenical in the original packaging given to you by your pharmacist. This will help prevent moisture from damaging the medication, according to the manufacturer.

    • 3

Store your Xenical at room temperature and do not refrigerate it. The manufacturer recommends storing the medication at 77 degrees F. Do not store Xenical for long periods of time in conditions cooler than 59 degrees or warmer than 86 degrees.

    • 4

Do not use Xenical after the expiration date listed on your prescription bottle. If you store Xenical for a long period of time and find that the expiration date has passed, visit your pharmacist for a new refill.
