Description of Didrex
The generic name of Didrex, manufactured by Pharmacia and Upjohn, is benzphetamine hydrochloride. It is used in the short-term treatment of obesity. The drug is administered to obese patients to decrease their appetite while at the same time increasing their blood pressure and heart rate.-
Patients

Didrex is usually administered for several weeks along with a calorie-restricted diet. Patients who typically receive this treatment have a body mass index of at least 30. Successful candidates for this drug have previously failed to lose significant amounts of weight through diet and exercise.
Dosage

Didrex is administered orally as a tablet. Doctors typically prescribe 25 to 50 milligrams of the drug up to three times daily. Patients are advised to take the drug 30 minutes before mealtime.
Side Effects

Trouble breathing, swelling, high blood pressure, headaches, hallucinations and blurred vision are possible side effects of taking Didrex. Patients who have allergic reactions to Didrex should stop taking the drug immediately. Other less serious side effects include dizziness, dry mouth, constipation, insomnia and diarrhea.
