Cdl regulations when you get epileptic fits?
If you have been diagnosed with epilepsy, the CDL regulations state that you must:
Inform the Medical Examiner of your condition.
Retake the medical examination, including a neurological evaluation.
Meet the physical qualifications for your CDL, including being able to safely operate a commercial motor vehicle.
If the Medical Examiner determines that you are medically qualified to hold a CDL, they will issue a medical certification with restrictions if necessary. These restrictions may include:
A requirement to see a neurologist regularly.
A requirement to take medication to control your seizures.
A restriction on the type of vehicles you can operate.
A restriction on the number of hours you can drive in a day or a week.
You must follow all of the restrictions on your medical certification in order to operate a commercial motor vehicle safely. If you fail to do so, you could be disqualified from driving a commercial motor vehicle.
In addition to the CDL regulations, you should also be aware of the laws in your state regarding driving with epilepsy. Some states have additional restrictions on drivers with epilepsy, such as requiring them to have a special license or to install a seizure-detection device in their vehicle.
