How to Get Relief From Piles

Hemorrhoids, otherwise known as piles, are veins that are located around the anus that become enlarged or inflamed. Piles can form on the outside of the anus, or they can start on the inside of the body. Piles on the inside of the body can jut out from the anus during or after a bowel movement. Symptoms of hemorrhoids include rectal irritation, itching, burning and possibly bleeding.

Instructions

    • 1
Consume more fiber to make bowel movements easier.

Consume more fiber by either eating more fruits and vegetables, or by taking a fiber supplement. A diet rich in fiber makes it easier for waste to pass through during a bowel movement. This will be less irritating on the hemorrhoids.

    • 2
Drink plenty of water to get relief from piles.

Consume 64 ounces of water a day. Drinking enough water every day will keep the stool soft, which will not irritate the hemorrhoids.

    • 3

Do not try too hard when having a bowel movement. Hemorrhoids can be irritated during a bowel movement if it's forced. If you are unable to have a bowel movement within 5 minutes, try again later.

    • 4

Go to the bathroom immediately when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement. If you wait, the waste may back up and possibly make it harder for you to pass the waste later.

    • 5

Apply a topical cream to the area of the piles. Topical creams can give relief from hemorrhoids by protecting the skin, reducing the swelling, relieving the pain and reducing the bleeding.

    • 6
Place a cushion underneath you to relieve the pain from piles.

Use a cushion when you sit in chairs or in bed to lessen the severity of any pain.

    • 7
Relieve the pain of piles by taking a sitz bath.

Take a sitz bath to relieve piles. In a sitz bath, you sit upright with your knees bent. The water in the tub should come up only to your hips.
