How to Ease Ear Pain with Sweet Oil

Ear pain is caused by many different reasons. However the chief cause of earache in children is chronic otitis media, a bacterial infection of the middle ear. When this form of ear ache occurs, people generally run to their doctor for antibiotics. The use of sweet oil can be an answer to ear pain in the interim.

Studies show that most instances of middle ear infection will go away on their own. But, there is a slight chance that the infection may progress to acute coalescent mastoiditis, which may be life-threatening. Therefore, you should go to the doctor when a middle ear infection is suspected. However, you can ease ear pain, and earache through the use of sweet oil until you can get to a doctor.

      The first step in knowing how to use sweet oil to ease ear pain - before the visit to the doctor to cure the ear infection - is to obtain a bottle of sweet oil from the drug store. If you do not have any on hand, simply use plain everyday olive oil, in conjunction with an ear dropper. If you do not have an ear dropper, you can dip a cotton ball in the olive oil.

      Warm up the bottle of sweet oil / olive oil in a bowl of hot water, but be very mindful of the temperature. Remember, this stuff has to go inside your ears.

      Tilt your head to access your aching ear, then squeeze one to three drops if sweet oil directly into the ear. Tilt your head back to a level position, then gently place a cotton ball loosely into the ear canal to prevent drainage.

      If you are experiencing ear pain in both ears, it is safe to repeat the process with the other ear. Aside from feeling a little odd about walking around with cotton stuffed in your ears, you should find immediate relief from earache by using sweet oil, or olive oil until you can get to your doctor.
